This work is loosely based on an 18th century ivory back scratcher, a very rudimentary prosthesis to extend the capacity of the body. Instead of the mutual reciprocity of ‘You scratch my back I scratch yours’ the object suggests the solitary need to self soothe.

Painted urethane, brass wire, red macramé cord

Approx. 53x10x3cm. 200g. Fixtures provided for wall mounting.
