Barbara Hepworth: What Do You See? By Laura Carlin

£6.99

This beautifully illustrated children’s book introduces young readers to the sculptures of one of Britain's most significant modern artists, encouraging them to look around them and question what they can see. Inside its pages, they’ll explore the world of Barbara Hepworth with illustrator and ceramicist Laura Carlin, and discover that art is all around!

Is it a stone? Or perhaps a cloud? Is that a person or maybe a mountain? Take a closer look inside… What do you see?

Barbara Hepworth was a twentieth–century British artist who found a way to capture entire worlds in her bold sculptures. Hepworth loved the shapes and textures that she saw in the countryside and carved them into wood and stone. Through engaging illustrations and activities, Laura Carlin provides insight into Hepworth's bold works, both naturalistic and abstract, and encourages children to create their own 3D forms inspired by the natural world.

Laura Carlin is an artist, illustrator and ceramicist, who studied at the Royal College of Art. She has won several awards including the Quentin Blake Award two years running, the National Magazine Award, and the Uniqlo Fashion Illustration Award in both 2003 and 2004. Laura currently works in an advisory role with the development of Quentin Blake's House of Illustration, and is a regular visiting lecturer at the University for the Creative Arts at Maidstone. She was voted an ADC Young Gun in 2009, one of the 50 most influential creatives under 30 years of age, and is the winner of the prestigious 2011 V&A Illustration Award.

'Hepworth's work is a reminder to look deeper, look through, look under, look around and most importantly, to never be afraid to play.' Laura Evans @stivesmermaid
